We recommend that all first time parents take childbirth preparation classes taught by a trained childbirth educator. For those planning an unmedicated birth, a natural childbirth class is preferred.
Hospital childbirth classes are very comprehensive and educational, but do not necessarily focus on the practice needed for an unmedicated birth.
Below are some national and local childbirth class options. A course’s philosophy should be in line with your own for it to be most effective. It is wise to do some research and speak to the instructors to decide if this is the best class for you.
Also, take into account the length, location, and price of the class. Most classes should be started between 26 to 30 weeks. Twelve-week courses might need to be started earlier.
